Scripted Spontaneity

Small Classes, Big Difference at SCORE

Scripted Spontaneity is about my school's Readers Theater performance. Prior to writing this, I had no information on the unique style of theater, contrary to my co-writer Isabella Nelson, who is very involved in the theater world, so while writing I made an effort to share what it may be like to participate in Readers Theater. Being able to sit down with the people passionate about this project, with a true need and desire to learn, developed my skills as a writer and taught me that sharing light hearted stories can be very fulfilling.

SCORE is an alternative High School in Nixa that I knew nothing about prior to writing this story so I was going into it with a lot of questions. The staff was incredibly kind to me in this process which was a huge help. Learning the ins and outs of a school dedicated to student success on a more personal level was facinating. It was a privilege to share this story and entirely different from my other experiances as a journalist

More to Talk About

Show Reveiw: ‘Stranger Things,’ a season that ruined a show

More to talk about is centered around Speech and Debate and although that's a decently popular activity, I was going into this story without a lot of prior information.  As I became more knowledgeable on the subject, I was able to write both information on the subject, and highlights of the recent season.

As a longtime 'Stranger Things' fan, I was very excited when the 5th season was announced. After watching the last episode I couldn't stop thinking about the end of an almost decade long show being so bland, and many people online shared the sentiment. Writing this piece was an adjustment as I was fully able to present my bias as opposed to a news structure. Ultimately I enjoyed the change and hope to do similar projects in the future.

Going Aerial

This story highlights the Nixa drone team and the unique aspects of their activity.  During interviews, I learned that this team is rather new and that not a lot of people outside of the club are aware of the ins and outs so it was very rewarding for me to be able to shine a light on a lesser-known subject.

Takedowns & Tournaments

Wrestling was one of the few stories I did recently that I felt decently knowledgeable about prior to the interveiw process. I felt I was able to have a more natural conversation than in typical interviews which helped me to get more extensive information on the sport and made the story differ from typical sport coverge.
